Enjoy a performance of The Nutcracker ballet at the recently refurbished Broadway Theatre in Prague. The two-act ballet was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann's story, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, by way of Alexander Dumas' adapted story The Nutcracker. The first performance of the ballet was held as a double premiere together with Tchaikovsky's last opera, Iolanta, in December 1892, at the Imperial Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Russia. Its name reflects the fact that one of its walls borders directly with the adjacent house. The church’s Romanesque base dates from the 12th century and the building was later modified in Gothic and Baroque styles. At one time the church was a lively center of the Utraquist Church and supported by wealthy burghers. The famous Baroque sculptor Ferdinand M. Brokoff is buried here.

After a short break, the concert continues with Antonin Dvořák's entire Symphony No.9 "From the New World". Listen to Barbora de Nunes-Cambraia as mezzo-soprano and the flute playing of Žofie Vokálková, who graduated in 1992 from the Prague Conservatory in the class of the master František Malotín. The conductor, Jan Šrámek, began conducting the Musici de Praga, a well-established orchestra with a long tradition, in 1996. Since then, he has performed frequently in the Dvorak Hall at the Rudolfinum in Prague and at other concert halls in the Czech Republic and abroad. Last but not least, the Symphony Orchestra of Prague Symphonists is one of the most famous symphonic orchestras in the Czech Republic and has a long international musical tradition.
