Live guide

Visit the towering redwoods of Muir Woods National Monument and enjoy California's Wine Country at your own pace on this relaxing two-day getaway with the ease of an organized tour and the flexibility of traveling on your own.

Day 1

This wine lover's tour begins with a hotel pick-up between 08:00 and 09:00. After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and a quick photo stop (fog permitting), head through the Marin Headlands to the Muir Woods National Monument. Muir Woods is one of the last old-growth coastal redwood forests in the San Francisco Bay Area. The marine layer fog provides the cool, moist environment that supports an amazing abundance of plant and animal life, from the coastal redwood to the slimy banana slug. After about an hour and a half in this tranquil preserve, we make our way to Sonoma.

The northern California wine country covers an immense area extending from the Pacific Coast to Central Valley in the east and from Marin County in the south, well into Mendocino County in the North.

Wine appellations in the Northern California Wine Country abound with delicious varietals. For example, the Sonoma Valley alone boasts over 30 grape varieties and over 200 independent farmers. The area includes over 300 world-class wineries and tasting rooms, from palatial European-style villas to rustic family-run operations where you are made to feel like a member of the family. On our Redwoods and Wine Hotel Tour you get to live the California wine tasting experience.

In the afternoon you will be dropped off at your accommodation in downtown Sonoma, located within walking distance of Sonoma Square. Your guide can provide you with suggestions for restaurants, sights, tasting rooms, and local wineries to fill your free time in this renowned wine region.

Day 2

The second day begins whenever you want to wake up! You will have the morning to do whatever you choose to fill your time: taste cheese samples at the Sonoma Jack Cheese Factory, visit the Mission San Francisco de Solano, the northernmost mission in California, or peruse the boutique shops that surround this center of commerce. The choice is entirely up to you. In the late morning, you will meet up with the group for more wine tasting in the Glen Ellen area, eventually heading into the famed Napa Valley.

Our first stop will be the Benziger Family Winery & Biodynamic Vineyard, where you will enjoy a close-up look at the vineyards, fermentation facility, and crush pad on a comfortable tram tour. You will also have a chance to walk through their barrel caves. The tour is approximately 45 minutes long, and includes a special tasting of Benziger's biodynamic and other award-winning wines.

Lunch is next. Enjoy a picnic lunch on a shaded patio (included in the tour price; your order can be arranged ahead of time). Then, you’ll head to Imagery winery to taste more award-winning wines and browse through their fine art gallery!

In the afternoon, travel over to famed Napa County for more wine tasting in Oakville, Yountville, or in the town of Napa. The landscape of rolling hills laced with rows of wine grapes is impressive and will provide a romantic backdrop for memorable photographs.

If time permits, a stop for a glass of sparkling wine can easily be integrated into this tour (optional). On the way back, stop for an evening view of the Golden Gate Bridge, with the city illuminated in the background. The tour will conclude with hotel drop off at approximately 18:00-19:00.
