Your knowledgeable English-speaking guide will show you the architectural and historical landmarks of the city and the picturesque Lake District. You’ll visit Leopoldskron Palace, a place whose exterior was used as the Trapp family home and where the children were seen boating on the lake and jumping into the water.
Maria was a novice at Nonnberg Abbey, the oldest convent in German-speaking Europe, and your next stop. The St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang scenes shown at the beginning of the movie were actually filmed at Lake Fuschl, on the way to St. Gilgen, which you'll also see today.
The wedding scene was filmed at Mondsee Cathedral, a buttery yellow-and-white edifice where you'll stop on the tour. Maria, led by Liesl, walked down the aisle to meet the baron in front of the stairs of the main altar.
After dropping you off in Salzburg at the end of the tour you can visit Mirabell Gardens, located just opposite the tour terminal. Maria and the children were seen dancing through the Gardens singing Do-Re-Mi.

Reviewed by Eudore from Dubai, UAE on January 11th, 2014 Peter the skeptic [guide] was fantastic with his caustic remarks and poor jokes that everyone liked... the tour was great. Perhaps seats could be reserved for families so they can together in the bus?
“Great tour and guide.”
Reviewed by Marguerite from Orlando, United States on December 26th, 2013 Our Sound of Music tour was excellent. Our guide, Peter, did a wonderful job and was very informative and funny. I would recommend that if one was going to taken this tour, they request to have as their guide.

“Relive great sights and music from the movie in it's real world setti.”
Reviewed by Gary from Parkdale, Australia on November 6th, 2013 Great experience that brings reality to the classic movie that the whole world loves. Hostess was most knowledgeable and very entertaining. We would certainly recommend the tour but suggest guests revisit the movie beforehand and brush up on the words of the tunes because guess what.....you get to singalong.
“A wonderful and fun way to see the beautiful area around Salzburg!”
Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Fuquay Varina, United States on October 15th, 2013 This tour was a wonderful way to see the beautiful, scenic area around Salzburg as well as visiting some of the locations used in the Sound of Music. Naiomi, our guide and Laslo, our driver were energetic, knowledgable and made the tour loads of fun! This tour is definitely worth your while.

“A definite must do for all Sound Of Music fans.”
Reviewed by Louise from wakefield, United Kingdom on September 22nd, 2013 I really enjoyed the Sound of Music Tour - and so did my partner who is not a fan of the film like I am. The information given by the tour guide was very interesting and I found out things I didn't know about the making of the film. The places we visited were stunning and it was nice to get the opportunity to take pictures. I also enjoyed listening to the songs whilst on the bus and looking at the beautiful scenery in and around Salzburg. Would definitely recommend the tour - even if you are not a big fan of the film.
The only thing I would say as a slight negative is that it is not made clear that although you are picked up from your hotel the tour ends in Salzburg and you have to make your own way back to your hotel. This surprised quite a few people on our tour and I think it should have been explained.
“Fun even for non Sound of Music fans”
Reviewed by Jean from Houston, United States on September 16th, 2013 Thoroughly enjoyed this tour even though it poured buckets. Our guide, Peter, made the tour fun with his information and witty humor. Loved the scenery, the Salzburg history (ancient and contemporary) and all of the Sound of Music Hollywood trivia. We had a well timed strudel break at lake Mondsee, toilet break and souvineer opportunity. I would highly recommend even for the reluctant. My husband was glad someone else did the driving and even our non Sound of Music companion enjoyed the tour and Peters humor. Would highly recommend.
“If you have time, do this tour OR if you are a SOM fan”
Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from berwyn, United States on September 16th, 2013 If you want an overview of Salzburg, take this tour. Besides, the usual places where SOM was shot and filmed, the tour takes you to the lake district area with a quick stop at Wolfgang and Mondsee lake which are very picturesque to see the church where Captain Von Trapp and Maria got married in the movie. The four hours go by very quickly and quick stops at every location. The SOM is a very popular tour for all the English speaking nation tourist so if you don't do it you may feel you missed out.
Reviewed by Janice from Woburn, United States on September 14th, 2013 A tourist event no question but fun to see all the sites and learn quirky details about the movie. Our guide Peter and the coach driver Ferdinand were an act of their own and made the experience enjoyable. Disappointing that some sites such as the palace used for the Von Trapp family home is not open to the public and the bus drives by a fair distance from it so you catch a glimpse and that is all. The location used for the backyard seems are also seen from across the lake so again a glimpse. St Michael's Church where the wedding was filmed is lovely and the town very quaint. The drive through the lakes region is worth the price as well as a few hours of your time. You explore Mirabelle Gardens on your own without a guide but they tell you all the main points to be seen as well as a few local attractions that you may want to visit.
“Very enjoyable. The tour guide Peter was great, very very good.”

“Fantastic - Our tour guide Peter was a star, our girls and us loved it”
Reviewed by Paul from Cheltenham, United Kingdom on August 16th, 2013 A truly memorable and fun day out for our children and us! The tour was gentle and made all the better due to the skill of our tour guide Peter and his colleague Mike (the driver). We had a wonderful fun day.
Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Winchester, United Kingdom on August 11th, 2013 The tour was excellent, very friendly and jokey tour guide and bus driver. The bus takes you all round Salzburg, including up into the Lake District and to small villages where they did filming. When the tour guide wasn't talking over the microphone, they played the Sound of Music soundtrack, and on the drive back from the Lakes they played a small video about the filming and history. It was very interesting, and met our expectations :)

“Good, fun tour of many Sound of Music eat”
Reviewed by Paul from Tusmore, Australia on June 7th, 2013 We enjoyed our 1/2 day tour with Naomi even though the day was average - 9 C and raining non-stop!
It was a very informative tour with a bit of history & background info about filming & where actors had stayed etc v. interesting. Great to see famous sites & settings. Video at end was most interesting with extra info from Liesl.
Some music at start (getting on bus) would have built the atmosphere more.
Thought we could have been taken to few more sites e.g fountain in square, gates of cemetery (near funicular), Abbey, archway Maria ran out through in city.
Occasionally the repetition of the info and jokes and slight glibness showed in guide's voice.
A question/feedback time would possibly help to bring some freshness & uniqueness to each tour?
Sale of the DVD of extra footage mentioned at end of tour would be popular and purchased by me but wasn't made very clear as to how & where this could occur. a sales opportunity missed?

“Great experience, wonderful scenery and a very informative guide.”
Reviewed by Julian from Fareham, United Kingdom on April 13th, 2013 We would thoroughly recommend this tour whether you are an avid Sound of Music fan or not! It provided a much scenic view of Saltzburg and surrounding areas as well as providing a wealth of information along the way. Naomi was a very friendly and informative guide and encouraged a great atmosphere throughout the tour. Although we felt in some places we could have spent a bit longer the overall allowed at each location was, on the whole, sufficient. We later returned to our favourite locations using a Saltzburg Card (which is amazing value for money) to visit additional attractions not included in this tour, but pointed out along the way.
A very enjoyable part of our trip to Saltzburg.

“WONDERFUL even if you bever saw the movie the scenery is worth it!”
Reviewed by Judith from Chandler, United States on December 30th, 2012 The tour and guide were excellent- the scenery and stops were breath taking so it didn't matter if you even saw the movie before because all the stops had charm on their own. The tour guide also gives other great info about the culture and people of Austria.
Not to be missed :)
“Comedic guide with right amount of cheese but disappointing otherwise”
Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from New York, United States on November 27th, 2012 The guide was theatrical and comedic, however the tour just took you to the sites of a few film locations that you could have driven to yourself (and you couldn't get up close to any of them except for the gazebo which is now closed) and did not offer any additional 'backstage' or 'behind the scenes' insight that you couldn't already find yourself in any of the Sound of Music books in the souvenir shops (or the internet). The mention of 'apple strudel' is a bit of a gimmick, they just drop you off in a town where the wedding was filmed and leave you to wander around for an hour. "You will find apple strudel at the store on that corner, a store selling cuckoo clocks on that corner..." etc etc. Really?!?! Was recommended by friends who did this tour though I would not recommend to others. For 37 Euros per person, rent a car and drive to the spots yourself.
