On this half-day tour you'll relive scenes from one of the most popular movies of all time. Visit the locations used during the filming of The Sound of Music in Salzburg and its surrounding countryside. During the tour, you’ll also hear songs from the original soundtrack.

Your knowledgeable English-speaking guide will show you the architectural and historical landmarks of the city and the picturesque Lake District. You’ll visit Leopoldskron Palace, a place whose exterior was used as the Trapp family home and where the children were seen boating on the lake and jumping into the water.

Maria was a novice at Nonnberg Abbey, the oldest convent in German-speaking Europe, and your next stop. The St. Gilgen and Lake Wolfgang scenes shown at the beginning of the movie were actually filmed at Lake Fuschl, on the way to St. Gilgen, which you'll also see today.

The wedding scene was filmed at Mondsee Cathedral, a buttery yellow-and-white edifice where you'll stop on the tour. Maria, led by Liesl, walked down the aisle to meet the baron in front of the stairs of the main altar.

After dropping you off in Salzburg at the end of the tour you can visit Mirabell Gardens, located just opposite the tour terminal. Maria and the children were seen dancing through the Gardens singing Do-Re-Mi.

What's Included:

• Free hotel pick-up

  • Rating: 5 “Wonderful guide. Great time.”

Reviewed by Arthur from Hanover, United States on November 2nd, 2012 Seeing the sites was great, but it was our guide that made the trip truly memorable. The material for the tour was good, we all enjoyed listening and singing along to the music. The day of our trip was a bit cloudy and rainy but everyone still had a great time. If you are a fan of the movie, this is a must do when visiting Salzburg.

  • Rating: 4 “My friends and I enjoyed this tour very much”

Reviewed by Maureen Christina from Swanley, United Kingdom on October 29th, 2012 The tour guide was amusing and the route was through beautiful countryside, thankfully in fine weather. Just about the right amount of time allowed for a stop at a lovely little town with an imposing church. We thought it was good value and fun. It is a pity there were few people on the coach with good voices and willing to use them though but it did not spoil our enjoyment

  • Rating: 5 “Absolutely fantastic!”

Reviewed by Harriet from Handcross, United Kingdom on October 28th, 2012 This tour lived up to our expectation and more for one adult and 2 just teeenage children. We loved it! Naomi our guide was fab with lots of background info. Lots of encouragement with singing on the coach. The hills were certainly alive with the Sound of Music. The reason we came to Salzburg was for this tour, lovely!

  • Rating: 4 “It was worth the money. The guide was entertaining.”

Reviewed by safeya from charlotte, United States on August 13th, 2012 The guide was really good. We were lucky the weather was perfect to see the lakes and the beautiful country side.
It was disappointing not to go to one of the major palaces were the shooting of the film took place.

  • Rating: 4 “good tour”

Reviewed by Sarianna from Aire la ville, Switzerland on August 8th, 2012 Good tour, well packed with information. The travel in bus to places further away went quickly listening to the guide, singing songs and watching a video at the end. Would have liked to tour the center of Salzburg as well, or at least get a leaflet for discovering the center of the city with some guideline on the places where scenes were shot.

  • Rating: 5 “Brilliant , first class amazing tour, superduper!!!!”

Reviewed by Jennifer from Ipswich, United Kingdom on August 2nd, 2012 I went on the sound of music tour with my two daughters and we all had the most lovely day, we didn't want it to end. The guide was excellent and gave out loads of info around the film and the true story, we visited most of the places where filming took place, and along the way also saw the pretty sights of Austria. Of course on the way back we listened and sang to the music, a truly wonderful day. Just a pity it had to end. My only critiscism is that there was not much time to spend at the church where the wedding was filmed and to have lunch in the village there. It looked such a beautiful village it would have been lovely to have had more time to wander, but to keep with the good timing of the tour I realise why this wasn't possible. All in all the most fabulous tour and one I would definately recommend. I'd go on it again!!

Reviewed by Michele from Westminster, United States on July 5th, 2012 Seeing most of the sites and getting additional information about the making of the film and the actors was fun. The bus was comfortable and the time went fast. It's a good thing to do at least once on a visit to Slazburg.

He certainly will not bore you.
