Discover Europe's largest opera house on an informative 90-minute tour of the Opera Garnier. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides from the Opera de Paris will uncover the secrets of this Baroque masterpiece, located in the heart of Paris.
Inaugurated in 1875 and named after its exciting young architect, Charles Garnier, it is the largest opera house in Europe. Once you have met your guide at the museum entrance, you will be taken to the “Rotonde des Abonnes” (Members’ Rotunda), once used as the formal welcome area for opera guests. Garnier’s unique signature will be pointed out among the magnificent arabesques, before you move on to explore the building's galaxy of riches.
You will set eyes on the writhing snakes of the bronze “Pythonisse” sculpture, before climbing the double stairway of the “Grand Escalier” (Main Staircase). Imagine the swish of crinolines as you admire the breathtaking décor and stroll through vast foyers, filled with sparkling mosaics, colorful marble columns and gold-leaf flourishes. Everywhere you look will be a feast for the eyes.
Throughout the tour, expert and enthusiastic guides from the Opera de Paris point out the splendid paintings and sculptures that help to make the Opera Garnier one of the most rewarding museums in Paris, as well as one of its most impressive working theaters.
• English-speaking, guided tour of the Opera Garnier's public areas (including the Rotunda, Grand Escalier, Grand Foyer, Auditorium and lounges)
• Entry ticket
Good to Know:
• As a working theater, access to the Auditorium is sometimes unavailable due to technical or artistic reasons. Access cannot be guaranteed.
• The tour is not available to children below 5 years of age.
• For artistic or technical reasons, the tour itinerary can be modified on the day of the tour itself, if so instructed by the Opera Garnier, without this giving rise to a refund.

Reviewed by Donna from Saskatoon, Canada on July 25th, 2014 Nice to see the theatre from the floor. Billed as only public area access but this was a nice concession.
“Must tour venue”
Reviewed by Monica from Burke, United States on July 17th, 2014 This was awesome. The ceiling of the theater alone was worth the price of admission. The tour guide very knowledgeable.

“Must see venue with informative guide”
Reviewed by Mark from Plano, United States on June 24th, 2014 Yes you could walk around yourself but the information gleaned from the guide and access to certain areas was well worth the cost. A beautiful bulding with an interesting background.
“Fair tour--too many people in tour group, couldn't hear tour leader.”
Reviewed by Starr from Novato, United States on May 30th, 2014 Tour leader was good, knew her information, but there were too many people in group. Couldn't hear tour leader because other groups were too close and too many people as well.
“Beautiful bulding and great guide.”

“An amazing and informative tour!”
Reviewed by William from Lindenhurst, United States on May 24th, 2014 The Opera Garnier is remarkably beautiful. During our tour we learned everything about it - the history, the architecture, the reason for the seating status, and so much more. Our guide knew everything about it and answered every question asked. She added humor throughout the tour and that made the tour even more delightful.
“This was an excellent guided tour with a knowledgeable and enthusiasti”
Reviewed by Lin from Clifton Hill, Australia on May 14th, 2014 This was really excellent. We had tickets to the opera/ballet, but booked to do this tour first and are so glad we did! It provided so much background and appreciation of the whole building that we would never have got from just going to the show (though that was amazing) or doing the self guided tour. Our guide was really enthusiastic and really brought things to life.
“Very interesting and worthwhile view inside the Opera Garnier”
Reviewed by Ruth from Eugene, United States on May 5th, 2014 We were traveling to Paris and planned to attend an opera performance at the Garnier. To get a better look at this beautiful building and learn more about it, we attended the guided tour in the afternoon. It was on time and led by a very well-spoken and knowledgeable English speaking Frenchwoman, who also had a bit of a sense of humor. It was well worth the price and the time, as we would otherwise never have seen many of the most interesting parts of the building nor understand what they were about. We highly recommend it!
“Well worth seeing.”
Reviewed by Pamela from Mountain View, United States on April 4th, 2014 This is an amazing building I enjoyed learning more about it. The group was rather large and I couldn't always get close enough to hear what our guide was saying. We were fortunate enough to be able to go into the auditorium.

“Great service and wonderful tour of the opera with a fun guide.”
Reviewed by Rita from North Shields, United Kingdom on February 22nd, 2014 Easy to book tickets online and no queuing. Third time we've done a tour of Opera Garnier and this was the best. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and had a sense of humour, as well as impeccable English. It is a beautiful building - fascinating history - and learning about those who were responsible for its construction; the social mores and politics of the time, brought it alive. Highly recommend this as a 'different' tourist experience.

Reviewed by Karin from Carp, Canada on December 6th, 2013 Such a beautiful and interesting building. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and amusing. It wasn't rushed and we could step out on the balcony and wave to people on the streets of Paris!
“A must see!”
Reviewed by Georg from Bougival, France on November 25th, 2013 Very interesting tour through the building of the Opera. Our guide was very engaged, smart and nice. 1,5 went by in a rush.
“Nice tour but a little bit basic”
Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Hedel, Netherlands on October 30th, 2013 Certainly a nice tour through a beautiful building. The guide spoke good English and there was room for questions. It would be nice, however, to see more spaces/rooms of the Opera building, e.g.: backstage, cellars, storages, Emperor's entrance: more of the backside thingies. So: I reckon it's a good tour to have a first acquintance with the building and its history, but if you are more of an architecture-insider and already basically familiar with the building, I wouldn't recommend it.
