Get up close and personal with Spain and its rich history on a day tour to Avila and Segovia. Relax as you are taken to visit the birthplace of Santa Teresa de Jesus in Avila. Then see the Aqueduct of Segovia and stop off at the stunning castle, Alcázar.

Discover the history of Spain on a full-day excursion leaving from Madrid. Visit Avila and Segovia, learning about the rich cultural heritage of the country and its people.

Begin with transport via an air-conditioned bus to Avila, where you will learn about Santa Teresa de Jesus, a great mystic woman of the Roman Catholic Church. You will also see some of the city; Avila has the most ancient and completely fortified complex in Spain.

Its 8,200-foot-long wall (about 2,500 meters) and its 90 fortified towers surround the old city, which houses a great part of its monumental treasures, including a large number of Romanesque-style churches, gothic palaces, and a fortified cathedral of the 12th century.

Next, continue on to visit the remains of the Roman Empire as seen at the Aqueduct of Segovia. Discover how this residence of some of the kings of Castilia is one of the most important medieval groups of buildings in Spain.

Finally, admire the "Lady of the Cathedrals" and view the most spectacular castle in Spain, Alcázar, which was built as a fortress but has also been used as a royal palace, state prison, college, and military academy.

  • Rating: 5 “An amazing trip”

Reviewed by Teresa – APO, United States on July 6, 2015 The guide was excellent and the two stops were perfectly paced. Àvila was spectacular and Segovia even more so. Loved the Alcazar palace! Another plus was the air-conditioning on the bus as it was over 100F degrees on the day we took the trip. Highly recommend this tour!

  • Rating: 5 “Excellent tour that had a good balance of things to see at a good pace”

Reviewed by Colin – Canberra, Australia on July 1, 2015 I really enjoyed this tour and thought it was a great way to spend a day. The things we saw and the information provided by the guide were excellent and I recommend it. The only unexpected thing was that the guide spoke in both English and Spanish when I had booked the English tour. So expect something like this, it was not a problem since I thought there was enough information even with the time split in two, but it would be better if they advertised that it is like this. I still give it 5 stars.

  • Rating: 3 “see note below.”

Reviewed by Roger and Kerrie on June 13, 2015 Combined Spanish and English tour does not work. Guide gave far more commentary in Spanish.

  • Rating: 5 “Great visits to Avila and Segovia”

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer – Atlantic Beach, United States on May 18, 2015 Don't miss these visits to Avila and Segovia while you are in Madrid.

  • Rating: 2 “Rushed”

Reviewed by Loretta – Australia on May 14, 2015 Felt like the whole day was just one big rush. Not enough sites visited and not enough time to enjoy each site. Tourist lunch was not worth it - better to find your own place for lunch for a cheaper price with better food.
