Overview:

Get up close and personal with Spain and its rich history on a day tour to Avila and Segovia. Relax as you are taken to visit the birthplace of Santa Teresa de Jesus in Avila. Then see the Aqueduct of Segovia and stop off at the stunning castle, Alcázar.

Description:

Discover the history of Spain on a full-day excursion leaving from Madrid. Visit Avila and Segovia, learning about the rich cultural heritage of the country and its people.

Begin with transport via an air-conditioned bus to Avila, where you will learn about Santa Teresa de Jesus, a great mystic woman of the Roman Catholic Church. You will also see some of the city; Avila has the most ancient and completely fortified complex in Spain.

Its 8,200-foot-long wall (about 2,500 meters) and its 90 fortified towers surround the old city, which houses a great part of its monumental treasures, including a large number of Romanesque-style churches, gothic palaces, and a fortified cathedral of the 12th century.

Next, continue on to visit the remains of the Roman Empire as seen at the Aqueduct of Segovia. Discover how this residence of some of the kings of Castilia is one of the most important medieval groups of buildings in Spain.

Finally, admire the "Lady of the Cathedrals" and view the most spectacular castle in Spain, Alcázar, which was built as a fortress but has also been used as a royal palace, state prison, college, and military academy.

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Mandurang, Australia on September 1, 2014 Interesting and full day although guide was rushed due to speaking both languages.

  • Rating: 3 “Too much in one day!”

Reviewed by Marcia from Ossining, United States on July 25, 2014 Felt rushed through it all. Had no time to shop and explore, not handicap accessible, too much walking for handicap disabled individuals, would prefer a choice of food in the lunch program.

  • Rating: 5 “Great tour.”

Reviewed by Natalia from Austin, United States on May 19, 2014 Awesome tour. Both places are definitely worth visiting and this tour lets you visit both in one day.

  • Rating: 4 “Enjoyed the towns, wish we had more free time”

Reviewed by Sharon from APO, United States on April 18, 2014 This is a nice way to see a lot and save time. I would have liked to have been given the choice between seeing inside cathedrals, etc. air walking around on your own and meeting up later. This was our only opportunity to go to these places and the outside shops looked like they would have nice things to buy. We were given an hour or so to eat lunch, on our own, but as most know, it takes almost that much time in a European restaurant. I had two teenagers who lost interest in the guide because we had to listen to the entire tour in Spanish before the English. I didn't know we had to hear both when I was signing up.
