Begin with a private tour to the Monastery of Barefoot Royals, officially known as the Convent of Las Descalzas Reales. It was founded in the former royal palace of King Charles I of Spain and Isabel of Portugal, and later donated to the Franciscan Clares Cloistered Nuns Order who, after nearly 500 years, continue to live in and maintain the monastery. Its main attraction is the ten 17th-century Flemish tapestries based on the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Then visit the Royal Convent of La Encarnación, a building donated to the Recolet Augustines Order, of which there are 14 today. See the grand Hall of Relics and feel the Counter-Reformation atmosphere that prevails in every corner of this unusual gallery and convent.
