Visit the UNESCO world heritage site of the Rhine Valley, its vineyards, and picturesque little towns and villages. You'll taste the local wines on site, see the mighty mediaeval castles – and maybe even the "Lorelei", the legendary maiden of the Rhine.

Begin your 1-day discovery of the Rhine Valley by opting to get picked up from your hotel in Frankfurt with a comfortable transfer service, or simply making your own way to the meeting point (depending on the option you book). You will then travel to the Rhine Valley by bus.

Discover the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rhine Valley, with its vineyards and picturesque towns and villages. See the mighty medieval castles – the area has the highest density of such buildings in the world. Marvel at the stunningly beautiful "Lorelei-Felsen," or Siren's Rocks, and enjoy fantastic views over the valley from the Niederwald monument.

In the summer you can ride on the Assmannshausen cable car down into the valley (optional), have lunch in a marvelous restaurant on the banks of the Rhine (included), and then take a wonderful Panorama boat trip to St. Goarshausen, past the famous Loreley.

Try fine wines on location in a small tavern and or just lose yourself in the picturesque little town of Rüdesheim. Please note that the tour will only stop at Rüdesheim if time allows. In the winter you'll get the chance to visit a castle, as the Rhine Steamers won't be sailing.

You'll travel back to Frankfurt by bus when the tour is finished and will be dropped off at the meeting point.

What's Included:

• Boat trip on the Rhine
• Depending on the option you have booked:
– Day Tour without hotel pick-up (Please make your own way to the meeting point)
– Day Tour with hotel pick-up (You will be picked up from your hotel in Frankfurt am Main and taken directly to the meeting point)
Please choose your desired option upon booking.
• Lunch
• Local wine tasting
• Pick-up and drop-off in Frankfurt
• Multilingual tour guide

What's Not Included:

• Return travel to your hotel
• Assmannshausen cable car ride into the valley

Good to Know:

Please note that there are different meeting points for each tour option:
• Those booking the option without hotel pick-up should join the tour directly at the meeting point – Wiesenhüttenplatz. This is where everyone will board the bus together.
• Those opting for the hotel pick-up service will be picked up from their hotel in Frankfurt am Main and brought directly to the meeting point.

• When the ships don't sail (e.g. during major events, in the winter, or in the event of floods), you will visit a nearby castle.

  • Rating: 4 “Nice day trip”

Reviewed by Jutta from Joshua Tree, United States on September 20th, 2014 We enjoyed everything about the trip. It was well organized and the guides, Michael and Guenther, were gracious and informative. The view from the chairlift was amazing! And the cruise itself was great. The wine-tasting was a bit of a disappointment, however, as it was served in tiny plastic cups, little more than the size of a thimble. The wine was tasty, though! Also, very little time to explore the charming village of Rudesheim. Overall, a great experience.

  • Rating: 5 “Wonderful tour”

Reviewed by Nicole from Waldorf, United States on September 9th, 2014 I greatly enjoyed this tour. The hotel pickup was great. The bus was comfortable. The lunch was good, but I would prefer just free time for lunch to eat on my own. The boat trip was exceptional. The availability of drinks and food on the boat was nice. The wine tasting was nice but there was a hard sell for the wine. The brief stop off was nice. The tour guide was absolutely wonderful.

  • Rating: 2 “Disappointing wine tasting”

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from NITEROI, Brazil on August 18th, 2014 Main reason for the trip was the "Wine Tasting" portion of it, but I was very disappointed with it, where we were given 4 shot glasses less than 1/3 full. The wine tasting was held at the same restaurant where they have served us lunch, where in my opinion if you are in a wine region, it would make it much more sense to have such an event at one of the vineyards.

The lunch was also a struggle during the trip, where it was only served at 4:30pm (we were all starving by them), the quality of the food was average .

  • Rating: 4 “A great day out!”

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Dublin, Ireland on July 30th, 2014 Overall, very good. The bus was lovely, the lunch, though basic, was fine, and the cable car and boat trip were both very enjoyable. Surprisingly, the wine tasting (despite the hard sell) was interesting, mainly due to the personality of the (formidable) hostess. Too much time spent over lunch but then again, at least it meant we missed the rain. The tour guide, Michael, was excellent - funny, informed and very helpful, and the bus driver was also very pleasant and good-humoured. Overall, a great day out!

  • Rating: 4 “Amazing scenery, but thought that we would be tasting a bit more.”

Reviewed by Clint from Polson, United States on September 3rd, 2013 Only were able to taste 4 wines at the very end of the tour. It would have been nice to sample a bit more from different wineries. The lunch and cruise were excellent, though.

  • Rating: 4 “Beautiful river cruise worth the drive to the boat”

Reviewed by Mike from Highland Park, United States on September 2nd, 2013 As mentioned by other reviewers, the river cruise is only about 90 minutes of the trip. But it is worth the drive to and from so you can enjoy the UNESCO Heritage Site portion of the river. Could have done without the wine tasting, but understand that this is a wine producing region. Would have loved a longer river experience or the ability to stop in some of the small towns, especially churches and castles, along the way.

  • Rating: 4 “Great tour - a must!”

Reviewed by Johannes from Steelpoort, South Africa on May 23rd, 2013 Was sceptic when we read on Trip advisor that somebody complained but there was enough good reviews. Busses clean, left on time and tour guide Michael was great. Beautiful castle to see and wine tasting at end was well presented. Departure office bit scruffy and would like nice toilets for public here.

  • Rating: 4 “The weather was not great but that\'s out of thier control”

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Vienna, United States on November 4th, 2012 An interesting tour of the castles and villages along the Rhine River that would probably have been more enjoyable on a nice day, but it was still worth seeing. B/c of the weather too much of the tour was probably spent in the restaurant. While drinks were not included with lunch the tour offered an interesting selection of wines to sample

  • Rating: 5 “Good guide”

Reviewed by Hakon from Breiddalsvik, Iceland on October 3rd, 2012 I took a similar tour over 25 years ago. The driver and guide for this one were excellent, I spoke with a few others from the group and everyone was completely satisfied with him. For a trip like this the guide is especially important, and I'd like to really emphasize how good ours was. The pub was good, as was the boat ride on the Rhine.

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from gross-zimmern, Germany on December 14th, 2011 We spent ages on the bus until we got to our destination, The boat didn't leave at the advetised time and we didn't enjoy the food that was included.

  • Rating: 4 “Fantastic. Must see tour.”

Reviewed by Koren from Arundel, Australia on September 18th, 2011 This tour was so much fun. A well organised tour, the guide - Michael was fantastic. Very informative, intelligent, funny man. Good lunch, the rhine steamer boat ride was great. Met somr lovely people.

  • Rating: 4 “Rhine River Boat Tour”

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Wyncote, United States on September 14th, 2011 The boat ride down the Rhine was absolutely beautiful. The boat ride and the convenience of being driven from Frankfurt was why I booked this tour. The cable car ride was also nice. The lunch and wine tasting however, were in a cheesy touristy place with a very pushy waitress. Having said that, this is the easiest way to see a very beautiful part of the Rhine, and if you know going in that you are doing this just for the boat ride, you won't be disappointed.

  • Rating: 1 “Misrepresentation. Not worth the time and money.”

Reviewed by Ivy from Singapore, Singapore on August 31st, 2011 The brochure gave the impression that we will spend most of our time on the boat trip, stopping over for lunch, and ending at a vineyard for wine tasting.

Since the tour started only at 11am, it was a bus ride driving next to the river, arriving at a restaurant for lunch. Lunch excluded beverages, and it consisted of baked chicken, coleslaw and fries that tastes like fast-food. Boat ride after lunch was a mere 2 hours, followed by another bus ride to Niederwald Monument before proceeding to the wine tasting place either by bus or cable car.

Wine tasting was again at the same restaurant that provided lunch, and it consisted of sips of 5 types of wine. We were treated as if we didn't know anything about wine, and there was hard selling.

When other tour members gave verbal feedback to the guide, he gave an un-related reply.

At the end of the tour, the guide said, "if you do not like this tour, and you have friends you do not like, do recommend this tour to them".

  • Rating: 4 “The experience was one of our favorite European experiences.”

Reviewed by Jennifer from Gastonia, United States on July 20th, 2011 The tour was well managed, had a variety of experiences and more than lived up to its promise of an exciting day. Michael, our guide did a great job!
Please note to issues: We arranged hotel pickup and confirmed the day prior but we were forgotten and had to call in to remind the office.
The wine tasting experience needs work. It was the least enjoyable part of the tour.
