Overview:

Enjoy an incredible 10-day trip through Zanzibar and the Serengeti, with stops in some of the region's most beautiful towns. Relax on Zanzibar's splendid beaches and admire the wilderness and wildlife at some of Africa's top safari destinations.

Description:

Day 1/2/3 Zanzibar

After meeting the guide, a local ferry will take you from Dar es Salaam - where you'll leave the truck - to Zanzibar. You'll take a transfer to the northern part of the island, where you will spend your time relaxing on the beach. On the 3rd day, you'll head south to Stone Town, the capital of Zanzibar, where you will spend the night. Here you'll have time to explore the historical and unique architecture. There are also spice and seafood markets to be explored.

Optional Activities: lunches, dinners, motorbike hire, spice tour, walking city tour, swimming with dolphins, scuba diving, snorkeling, etc.

Meals: Breakfast x 3

Day 4 Lushoto

Today you'll leave Zanzibar and catch a ferry back to Dar es Salaam and return to the truck. You'll continue on to Lushoto, the major yet small town and district center in the Usambara Mountains, halfway between the coast and the parks. The popular pot plant Saintpaulia has its only wild occurrences in Tanzania, particularly in the Usambara Mountains.

Meals: Breakfast, dinner

Day 5 Karatu

The city of Arusha is surrounded by some of Africa's most famous landscapes and national parks. Situated below Mount Meru on the eastern edge of the eastern branch of the Great Rift Valley, the city is close to Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and the Arusha National Park.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 6/7/8 Serengeti and Ngorongoro Excursion

These 4 days are set aside for the optional 3-night camping excursion into the Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. This area has one of the most densely inhabited large-animal populations in Africa.

The Serengeti excursion is in open-topped 4x4 safari vehicles in order to tackle the challenging side roads in the parks. For those not going to the parks, take this chance to absorb some of the fascinating local culture.

Optional Activities for those not doing the Serengeti Excursion - you will stay behind in Arusha: Various Serengeti and Ngorongoro excursion packages, Lake Manyara game drives, day hiking and village tours, and many more day trips

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 9 Arusha

Today the group meets up again and you'll have the chance to exchange stories of the various adventures that you participated in over the past few days. In the afternoon you'll visit the local Masai Mara Museum and Snake Park in Arusha.

Optional Activities: Camel ride to local Masaai village

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner

Day 10 Kenya - Nairobi

After crossing the border into Kenya you'll continue to travel towards Nairobi and the end of your journey. Usually you'll end the tour with a group meal out at one of Nairobi’s excellent restaurants.
