Join paranormal authors Geordie Buxton and Ed Macy on this unique tour. Get thoroughly spooked as we tell of a series of mysterious hauntings – from orphan poltergeists to a lost cadet inside the old citadel to an angelic reverend, and many more!

"There is only one essential ingredient in a ghost story: death." So say Charlestonians Ed Macy and Geordie Buxton in their introduction to their book about the haunted streets of Charleston.

By rambling through the oft-forgotten enclaves of the Holy City, the paranormal authors bring guests face to face with a group of orphans who haunt a dorm of a Charleston College, a Citadel cadet who haunts a local hotel, and an angelic spirit in a Scottish Presbyterian graveyard, to name just a few.

We will hear tales of a bookstore phantom, notorious for rearranging books in perfect vertical stacks, and a gruesome 19th century amputation taking place in a medical student’s apartment. This tour is not for the faint-hearted!

Based on historical events and specific details that are often lost in our general notion of ghosts, each haunting encounter will send chills down your spine.

  • Rating: 4 “A better than expected history with a well informed and engaging guide”

  • Rating: 5 “Great tour guide. Very passionate about Charleston's rich history.”

Reviewed by James from Drexel Hill, United States on October 7th, 2014 Not your typical, "look a ghost!" tour. Very fun and educational . You learn a lot about Charleston's rich controversial history. Definitely worth it!

  • Rating: 5 “Fun and informative”

Reviewed by Steve from Lexington, United States on October 6th, 2014 Not really "scary" at all. Good history lesson and very informative. Guide was excellent!

  • Rating: 4 “It was a little quirky, but informational and entertaining.”

Reviewed by Kelsey from North Ridgeville, United States on October 6th, 2014 My husband and I weren't sure what to expect on a ghost tour, but for the $16 we spent, it was a good time. The spooky moments were brought on by the graveyard and the Old Citadel paired with the stories behind these spots. The tour was definitely informational with stories of the war, soldiers, and tragedies in the Charleston area, which we found to be the most interesting part. And for a weeknight, late evening, it was an entertaining way to spend the time. If you are looking for something really scary where you are venturing in to dungeons and old homes and are wanting to see a ghost of some sort, this is probably not the tour for you. This is mostly interesting stories paired with either looking at a building or going into a building that is not scary. It was good for us because I didn't want to get too spooked. :)

  • Rating: 4 “Great guide, interesting tour”

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Davidson, United States on June 25th, 2014 We booked this tour not knowing it would go through our hotel, the Embassy Suites, the original Citadel building, the most haunted hotel in Charleston. It was very interesting and well thought out and almost acted out by Geordie, our guide. When we returned to the hotel, we were hot and tired. After settling in, my kids were watching TV, playing videos, and generally being quiet. All of a sudden, I heard what sounded like a landslide, and watched the huge mirror over the bar in our suite slip from the wall and flip over onto the floor!! Fortunately, no one was hurt, but we were all shaken up, especially after the ghost stories Geordie told!

  • Rating: 5 “Excellent tour, highly recommended!”

Reviewed by Wendy from Warner Robins, United States on June 22nd, 2014 Gordie was an awesome guide. He knew tons of history leading to the reason there are ghosts there. He answered a ton of questions and was very personable! The tour was longer than most for time at 90 minutes, but the distance and pace were not bad at all, plus there was a bathroom stop.

  • Rating: 5 “One of the highlights of our first trip to Charleston”

Reviewed by Angela from Morehead City, United States on June 4th, 2014 Our first night in Charleston in the spring was already great but this tour was a real highlight. My husband wanted to hear more of the history of the town, and I enjoy something a little scarier so this sounded like a perfect mix of the two. We looked at a lot of tours online before we left, but we loved that this tour was given by someone born & raised in Charleston and had written multiple published works on the haunted history in the area. Our guide did not disappoint, he took us to a nice mix of interesting locations with real historic relevance and some that were a little more off the beaten path. The stories were believable, inspiring, amusing and truly creepy at times but definitely something that would be appropriate for a variety of age groups. It probably varies depending on the time of year, but our group was 8-10 people on a Sunday night in June, which was just right. We'll definitely be back in the future for one of the other tours next time we're in town.

While it was not really about "ghosts" the guide was very engaging with respect to historical events. I would urge travelers to make this tour part of their visit.
