Visit the coastal city of Tianjin by bullet train on a full-day excursion from Beijing. The high-speed train service was launched in 2008 and at the time was the world’s fastest, reducing the Beijing-Tianjin travel time from 70 minutes to around 30.

Tianjin’s main attraction is the area known as Wudadao (Five Avenues). The name derives from the quarter’s five main streets: Changde Dao, Chongqing Dao, Dali Dao, Machang Dao and Munan Dao. More than 230 buildings here, representing the European architectural styles of the port city’s foreign concessions, date from the early 20th century. Structures of English, French, German, Italian and Spanish origin have been carefully preserved and stand alongside others built in a mixed Chinese and Western style.

Visitors can choose to explore the streets of Wudadao by foot or from the comfort of a horse-drawn carriage. Either way, you’ll marvel at architectural styles that convey the coming together of cultures in Tianjin's prime. This was Tianjin’s most desirable neighborhood by the 1920s.

You’ll see that a number of historical buildings in Wudadao house museums, such as the Tianjin Museum of Modern History, which features a collection of memorabilia from the Concession Era and the area’s prominent residents. At its height of popularity, Wudadao was home to two Chinese presidents, seven prime ministers and many celebrities.

Tianjin has always been a city of trade and today is a shoppers’ paradise, drawing bargain seekers to its old markets and modern shopping centers. At the antiques market, located at the corner of Jinzhou Dao and Shandong Lu, many vendors simply display their wares on blankets on the street. You’ll find similar goods along the Ancient Culture Street and also on Dongmennei Dajie at Tianjin's Confucius Temple Antiques Market.

After returning from your full day excursion to Tianjin we will drop you off at your hotel in Beijing.
