The heart of the Gothic Quarter is where the Roman Forum once stood. This has been a vibrant part of the city for over 2000 years. The district still stands in its original design of winding streets connected by vast open squares. Here you will find bustling open markets, political demonstrations and exciting festivals. Roam these labyrinth of cobbled streets adorned with bakeries, art galleries and boutiques. Spanish cuisine is world famous for its tapas and fine wines. Tour guests can sample the traditional mid-afternoon treat of churros con chocolate, before moving onto a glass or two of local wine as the day unfolds.
In The Gothic Quarter, visit the 14th century Barcelona Cathedral or the recently restored picturesque church, Santa Maria del Pi. The tour guide will offer information and stories behind these stunning works of architecture. An area of the Ciutat Vella (Old Town), which you will visit is El Raval. Here there are historical monuments such as the Monastery of Sant Pau del Camp, as well as newer features like the Modern Art Museum of Barcelona and the Maritime Museum. The city’s most famous market, La Boqueria, is also located here. Elsewhere you can visit the fashionable district of Ribera or get sand in between your toes at Barceloneta Beach! The tour also offers you the chance to visit the historic Jewish Quarter. This part of the city is home to what is presumed to be Europe’s oldest synagogue.
Barri Gótic is a brilliant place to tour due to its abundance of historical and cultural heritage. Whatever your tastes, this is a tour which offers something for everyone. “One of the best tours I've ever taken”
Reviewed by Barbara from Green Cove Springs, United States on December 21st, 2012 My half-day tour of the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona was absolutely one of the best tours I've ever taken. My guide, Nancy Daum Daily, was thoroughly informed about the history and architecture of the area and she was happy to stop or make diversions in her route to show me places that were of special interest to me. She knew all the hidden courtyards, secret gardens, places to view remains of the old Roman wall, etc., and at the end of our tour she took me to a local vegetarian restaurant, which would have been very difficult to find on my own.
