Journey through the central heartland of Bali discovering temples and spice gardens. Take a trip back through time to the pre-colonial era as you visit Bukit Jambul, Besakih Temple, Mount Agung and more.
What to Expect
This day-long excursion starts with a pick-up at your hotel at 08.00 for a journey into the verdant hills of Bali's central heartland. The 8-hour excursion begins at Klungkung Regency, famous for its classic Balinese paintings depicting the story of epics, such as the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
You will stop at Kertagosa, once a place for the administration of traditional justice in pre-colonial times. Situated in the heart of Semarapura town, its name is an amalgamation of the Sanskrit word for “Peaceful” and the Gosita word for “Announcement.”
Soak up the serene environment of the temple, seemingly floating in the middle of a fishpond, before moving on to Bukit Jambul and the Besakih Temple. Dubbed the “Mother Temple” of Bali, Besakih is located high up on the slope of Mount Agung and is the largest Hindu temple in Bali, boasting beautiful panoramic views.
Following lunch at a local restaurant, you will continue to Agrowisata, one of the best coffee plantations on the "Island of the Gods." You will pass spice gardens along the way.
Next you will visit Gunung Kawi, famed for its bathing pools and natural spring. Regarded as a holy site by locals, Gunung Kawi is a place of pilgrimage and a dramatic sight cut into the sheer cliff face. Explore the 11th-Century temple complex and rock carvings, beautifully set among rice fields, before continuing your journey home for your hotel drop-off.
Throughout the day, you will travel through a bucolic landscape, far from the bustle of Bali’s beaches and the busy Ubud market. You will see rice terraces and quiet villages where traditions are still practiced in the back alleys. You will enjoy dramatic views of the spine of Bali’s central mountains and see inland waterways everywhere you look.
