Enjoy a comprehensive tour and explore Amsterdam and the Dutch Countryside! View the canals of Amsterdam, visit windmills at Zaanse Schans, taste Edam at the Cheese Factory in Volendam, and choose your shoes at the clogmaker on former island Marken!

Take a 9-hour tour of the Dutch countryside and the city of Amsterdam on a combination full-day excursion. Departing from a central location in Amsterdam, you will first start of your city sightseeing tour of Amsterdam. An expert guide will show you how Amsterdam can claim the largest historical city center in Europe, and take you to admire the city’s legendary canals. Travel along the Dam, the central square of Amsterdam, and site of the Royal Palace and the Netherlands National Monument. View the famous skinny bridge of the Magere Brug.

Continue to the Albert Cuyp Market, and see beautiful houses along the canals. Finally, you will go to a windmill on the Amstel River, before visiting a diamond factory, where you will see how diamonds are traditionally polished.

Now, head for the countryside of Holland. View famous windmills, fishing villages and traditional Dutch costumes.

On this part of the tour you will visit a wooden shoemaker, where you will get a demonstration of how a wooden block is changed into a wooden shoe in a matter of minutes. Now walk through the quaint island community of Marken, to the harbor. On the way you can spot traditional Dutch costumes, instantly recognizable from tourist postcards and posters.

Your group will also get to visit the Cheese Factory Volendam, where the friendly staff will tell you everything about cheese. Of course, you'll also get to enjoy some yummy tasters! After the Cheese Factory, enjoy some free time for strolling around, or have lunch in one of the many fish restaurants.

Besides Volendam, the windmills of the Zaanse Schans are a highlight of the tour. In this historical village, windmills are beautifully restored and completely functional. The historical wooden warehouses complete the picture. At the end, your guide will bring you back to the Central Station of Amsterdam.

  • Rating: 4 “Excellent Tour and guide”

Reviewed by Antonia from Tain, United Kingdom on October 16, 2012 I now know why there are so many windmills in the Netherlands......windy is an understatement. Regardless of the weather, we had a great time. Zaamse Schans is unique and beautiful. The cheese factory tour was okay...nothing special, but still interesting. Volendam was also lovely. We enjoyed the day very much. I really recomend this trip to see windmills and The Netherlands traditions! Nice way to see the countryside. Excellent tour...little crowded though and wish we had more time at the Windmills. Very informative guides and trip to fishing village was great. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Good value for money. The lady guide and driver were very good. Righly recommend.

  • Rating: 3 “Very nice, entertaining combination tour”

Reviewed by Roberto from Zürich, Switzerland on May 31, 2012 The guides could have been a little bit more informative, but they don't have an easy job when you realize that they're translating what they say into three or four languages. I was never board. The visit to the diamond factory was a welcome change. I would recommend this tour.

  • Rating: 3 “Beautiful tour, unfortunately tight with time, side costs too expensive”

Reviewed by Natascha from Osburg, Germany on May 29, 2012 All in all, it was a beautiful tour. Unfortunately, the length of the stay was very tight with time. After taking off with the city tour, the tour guide was very nice and friendly. She translated in numerous languages and you unfortunately needed to concentrate very intensely to hear her on the bus's loudspeaker. At some of the stops, you couldn't tell if you were hearing your language. After a break of almost 1.5 hours, it went on with a new bus and some new participants. This time there were headphones and you could choose your language at the location. I found this good and could understand what was being said this time. The sights were also pretty, but sometimes too expensive. In the windmill village, for example, you needed to pay three euro for entrance to every mill and we only had 45 minutes for the entire village. Also, other services there were extremely expensive (5.90 euro for a water and cola, for example!)

  • Rating: 4 “The tour is very good.”

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Fribourg, Switzerland on May 7, 2011 We liked it very much. The tour of the cheese factory can probably be left out, as they just tell you how the cheese is made. Otherwise the tour is great.

  • Rating: 5 “Tolle Möglichkeit Amsterdam und die Umgebung stressfrei zu entdecken!”

Reviewed by a GetYourGuide Customer from Scharnitz, Austria on June 16, 2014 Es sind eigentlich zwei Touren.
