Overview:

Explore the oldest parts of Amsterdam on a privately guided walking tour. You’ll follow historical paths and see the important monuments of a city that was once considered the center of the world. You’ll also learn what makes it a world-class city today.

Description:

On this 3-hour tour you’ll visit the oldest parts of Amsterdam and wander along the small streets and canals that make this city unique. Amsterdam is very popular with tourists and the crowds are quite large at times, but this private, small-group tour will ensure that your experience is a personal one!

It is a private tour, no other people will join the booked tour. The itinerary can be customized in line with the interests of the group as well!

You’ll meet your guide and begin the tour at Dam Square, the central point in Amsterdam. From here you’ll walk along some of the most beautiful canals and quaint streets of the old city. Your guide will tell you about the areas you visit and answer any of your questions about the city.

Along the walk you’ll hear stories about Amsterdam’s expansion during the 17th century, when the city was becoming increasingly famous in the arts, sciences, and architecture. • Rating: 5 “Really interesting trip through Amsterdam”

Reviewed by Birgit from Wedemark, Germany on October 6, 2014 Great sunny trip through Amsterdam; interesting and informative. Every question was answered. We will return soon. We recommend Gerk Kazemier! Thanks very much.

  • Rating: 5 “Outstanding overview of Amsterdam.”

Reviewed by Daniel from Sherman Oaks, United States on July 25, 2014 Gerk was fantastic- smart, urbane, informative, about not just Amsterdam but the Netherlands in general. Took his time, even stopped for coffee along the way. Superb all the way around.
A note about kids- Gerk doesn't "pander" to children. He addressed my wife and I primarily, and my kids, who were tired and a bit distracted, were left to fend for themselves. If you're a family with lots of children looking for a guide to really engage with your kids, Gerk might not be the ideal choice. Aside from that, I recommend him wholeheartedly.

  • Rating: 5 “We loved Amsterdam walking tour with Gerk”

Reviewed by Mary from Kentfield, United States on July 9, 2014 We had two children and grandma with us on the tour. All five of us enjoyed Gerk's interesting historical commentary, his attention to us and sense of humor. A very fine tour guide who is very knowledgable about his home city.

  • Rating: 5 “Gerk was first rate on social & grand history puting it all in context”

Reviewed by Alan from Cambridge, United Kingdom on May 27, 2014 Gerk Kazemier was a warm friendly knowledgeable guide, who made us feel very welcome. He covered the key sites in old Amsterdam, explaining they way they reflected the mindset of the local people as well as their place in the grander sweep of history. Came away with a real understanding of how Amsterdam had developed through the views of the people rather than the rulers, which has allowed a very pragmatic sense of tolerance to be developed and maintained over the centuries

  • Rating: 5 “Gerk was great.”

Reviewed by Roger from Carmel, United States on April 25, 2014 The guide and the sights chosen were great.
